Buying the wrong case size is the most common reason phone cases get returned. iPhone models from the same year often look alike but have different heights, camera layouts and button positions. Here is how to get it right the first time.
Step 1: find your exact iPhone model
Open Settings โ General โ About. The Model Name line tells you exactly which iPhone you have, for example "iPhone 17 Pro Max". Use that exact name when you choose a case.
Step 2: never mix Pro, Pro Max and standard sizes
- Pro vs. Pro Max: different screen sizes and heights. A Pro case will not fit a Pro Max.
- Standard vs. Pro: even when the screen size is similar, Pro models have a larger camera plateau, so cut-outs differ.
- Air and Plus models have their own dimensions too.
Will an iPhone 17 Pro Max case fit the iPhone 18 Pro Max?
Don't rely on it. Even small changes to the camera module or button layout from one generation to the next can stop a case from fitting properly. Most of our designs are made in both sizes, so simply select iPhone 18 Pro Max in the Model menu. Browse iPhone 18 Pro Max cases or iPhone 17 Pro Max cases.
Will an iPhone 16 Pro Max case fit the iPhone 17 Pro Max?
No. The camera layout changed between these generations. Choose a case made for your model: iPhone 16 Pro Max cases.
What about the iPhone Duo?
The iPhone Duo folds, so it needs a two-part case built around the hinge. Regular iPhone cases will not fit. See our iPhone Duo case guide and iPhone Duo cases.
